The commune extends over a vast plane being particularly wet towards La Pallue. The water course that flows through Gensac takes the waters from a swallow hole found next to the church.
To the North of the commune runs the main A road that links Angouleme with Saintes. This major road link makes the area an ideal site for locating businesses.
The commune includes several major villages including Les Six Chemins, Les Barbotins, Les Gascards, Soubérac and Les Martinauds
This commune was once made up of the boroughs of Gensac la Pallue. During the 19th Century they were merged together. However, Roissac, which belongs to the commune of Gensac was brought under the administration of the commune of Angeac-Champagne.
Its history is closely linked with that of the Rochefoucault family due to the Castle at Roissac.
The nave of the church at Gensac is known for its four copulas. The chancel dates back to the end of the 13th Century and the facade is home to many wonderful sculptures including a plaque depicting the Patron Saint of the church, Saint Martin.
Near to the Chemin Boisé (Wood Lane) is the Logis de l’Eclopart manor house that dates from the 17th Century.
