Presentation

Salles d’Angles is a vibrant, lively village due to the dynamic local economy and the active, energetic local groups that make things happen in the community.

For everyone who lives in the village, daily life functions around three basic principles:

- We make the most of living near the town,
- We hold dear our status as a rural commune
- We are proud to be from the Grande Champagne region..

History

On the 20th December 1856, the village of Salles de Segonzac was united with that of Angles, a small commune nestled in a bend of the river Né. The joining of these two villages, each with its own distinct character has proved to be a huge success.

Patrimoine

You can discover the traditions surrounding grape growing by visiting the Museum of art and popular Traditions which is not far from the church which dates from the 18th and 19th Centuries.

The Chapelle d’Angles, an ancient Templar site, preserves the history of village. The chapel keeps silent watch over the tomb of Legionnaire Jean Lamoureux, a soldier during Napoleonic times.

At the time, Salles had the image of a big village concentrated solely on the production of grapes and oblivious to local problems. The village pastor prior to the revolution of 1789, Abbot Vinçonneau who built the magnificent presbytery, was well known for his wonderful bottles of Cognac.
